Celestite

Celestite, also known as Celestine, is a favorite among mineral collectors. Its name comes form the Latin word “Caelestis”, meaning “Celestial” because of the beautiful pale blue color of some crystals.

First discovered in Sicily in 1781, it was named for the celestial sky blue of its finest specimens in 1798 by the German mineralogist A.G Werner.

Celestite, mined for Strontium and its Salts, is used in fireworks and flares, flaming crimson. Celestites perfect cleavage makes it very fragile. While it can be faceted, examples are exceedingly rare and are true collectors’ pieces.

Celestite ranges in color from white, to yellow, to heavenly blue, and is found in Madagascar, UK, Italy, U.S.A. and Germany.

According to crystal healers, Celestite fosters connection with angels, calming and attuning your consciousness to higher planes. They also believe that Celestite relates to communication and creativity, and that it enhances peacefulness and mental clarity. Because of these associated attributes, some people use Celestite to cool anger and to relieve tension. In meditation, crystal healers believe that it is most effectively used by placing Celestite on the Throat Chakra or on the Third Eye.
