Charoite

Introduction

Discovered in 1976, Charoite is one of the world’s rarest minerals. It is only found in one location, the Murun Mountains in Yakutia, Aldan, Russia. The gem is named after the location of its deposits near the Charo River.

The reason Charoite has not been found in other locations is due to the fact that the Murun Mountains provides the unique combination of chemical and physical conditions needed for its formation.

Legends & Lore

According to crystal healers, wearing Charoite is believed to enhance self-esteem, accelerate spiritual growth, soothe hot emotions, help in letting go and enhances ones ability to love.

Physically, Charoite is believed by some to aid in the treatment of general aches and pains, liver ailments and blood pressure.

Just The Facts

Chariote is composed of Hydrated Potassium Sodium Calcium Barium Strontium Silicate Hydroxide Fluoride.

Charoite looks quite unlike any other gem and cannot be mistaken for anything else. With its appearance of purple marble and strange looking swirly strands of fibrous material, Charoite is truly unique, making it highly sought after by collectors.

Charoite is quite popular as an ornamental stone and as a gemstone. It is fashioned into carvings, cabochons, beads, spheres, tiles and inlay.

Charoite occurs in various shades of purple (from bright lavender, violet and lilac to dark purple) with white swirls and with swirling patterns of black Augite, black patches, and occasional golden dendrite impurities. Charoite crystals are vitreous to pearly and occur in transparent to translucent forms.
